Image files are viewed on a color calibrated monitor and compared with the original artwork. This is where experience and expertise yields accurate colors, deep blacks, contrast, tones, and saturation.

A print on cotton paper is made and compared to the original art. Adjustments to the image file are made if required and another test print is made. The test print/s are offered to the client for their reference.

Artwork is scanned on a wide format flatbed scanner. Artwork scanned at 300ppi (pixels per inch) resolution by default. Higher resolution available on request. Initial artwork scans are cropped to the original size of the art.

A maximum size of 48 x 60" can be digitized. Canvas does not need to be removed from the stretcher bars.

Artwork which is shiny (eg. gloss varnished) and with darks and blacks, may show reflections from a textured surface. Our artwork scanner has lighting adjustments which can usually mitigate these reflections.

Color proofing consists of first "soft proofing" within Photoshop for comparison of digital version with the original artwork. Hue, saturation, highlights and shadows are adjusted as required to match the original as it appears on a monitor.

Next, a test print (hard proof) from the image file is printed on cotton paper. The test print confirms proper color adjustments that match the original art. Hard proofing is included in the cost of the digitization.

Yes! AirClix will complete a quick "levels" check for highlights and darks in Photoshop. There will be no color adjustments. The artist will be notified If the height x width ratio of the image file does not match the requested print size.

All artwork is captured using the Tiff file format with a minimum of 300 dpi resolution. Usually, smaller artwork (eg. 8 x 10") is scanned at 600 dpi. Image files are sent to clients using WeTransfer in Tiff (default) but other versions can be requested (pdf, psd, jpg, png).
